Skylight repairs and replacement.

A leak near a skylight does not always mean the unit needs replacing. We check the skylight, flashing and surrounding roof before recommending the work.

Existing skylight surrounded by completed TrueFlight shingle roofing

Who this is for

  • Water staining appears near a skylight opening
  • The unit or flashing is aging with the roof
  • Condensation or drafts need diagnosis
  • A roof replacement creates the right access window

Keep the light. Solve the leak.

Water around a skylight does not always mean the whole unit needs replacing. We look at the unit, flashing and surrounding roof before recommending the work.

Find where the water starts

A roof-side leak, a failing unit and interior condensation call for different fixes. The inspection comes first.

Use the roof replacement window

If a skylight is aging, replacing it during roof work can avoid disturbing new shingles later.

Choose a suitable replacement

We review the opening, roof slope and unit options so the replacement fits the roof—not just the opening’s dimensions.

The opening needs a complete roof detail.

Flashing that sheds water

The flashing, underlayment and shingles must overlap in the right order around the unit.

Sound curb and decking

Any damaged support or decking is addressed before the roof is closed up.

A clear scope

We explain what is included around the skylight and flag any interior finishing work separately.

Book a free roof check and include the skylight concern when you call.

Skylight questions.

Does a leaking skylight always need replacement?

No. The problem may be the unit, the flashing or the surrounding roof. We inspect those areas before recommending a repair or replacement, rather than assume the glass unit is the cause.

Could the moisture be condensation rather than a roof leak?

Yes. Indoor moisture can condense on a cold surface. When the water appears, where it starts and the condition of the unit help narrow down the cause. Roof repairs will not solve an indoor humidity problem on their own.

Should I replace an older skylight when I replace the roof?

It is worth assessing both together. Replacing an aging unit during roof work can avoid disturbing the new shingles later. If the skylight is sound, we explain the options rather than automatically replace it.

Can any skylight fit my existing opening?

The opening size is only part of the choice. Roof slope, curb or deck mounting, roofing material and the correct flashing kit also matter. We check the existing installation before recommending a unit.

Is flashing more than sealant around the frame?

Yes. Proper flashing is a shaped system that directs water around the opening and overlaps with the roof layers. Smearing sealant over a recurring leak is not a substitute for fixing an incorrect detail.

Will the work include interior drywall or painting?

We make the scope clear before you book. Roof-side work and any interior finishing are different parts of a skylight project, and we identify what is included and what may need separate attention.

What should I tell you when booking the inspection?

Mention whether the water appears during rain, snowmelt or cold weather, and whether the glass looks fogged between the panes. Photos taken safely from inside can help. You do not need to climb onto the roof.
